Marriage proposal

I'm watching Regis and Kelly and some actor is telling how he just proposed to his girlfriend on the jumbotron in Times Square and it reminded me of the coolest proposal I ever witnessed, which I will get to in a moment, but first, Enrique Iglesias -- stop talking.

He's filling in for Regis and he's trying to talk this guy out of marriage. Kelly keeps giving Enrique an out for the conversation and he's not picking up, in fact, it's only prompting him to further make his point and it's turning into some squirm tv. This actor is going to host the Teen Choice Awards, the squirmiest moment so far was Enrique telling this guy there will be 'no more hosting the teen show' after marriage.

Uh, Enrique -- pervy pervert.

Not exactly a great set up for a romantic story, but I'm alone and I needed to share what I'm hearing here.

The best proposal I ever saw took place at the Italian Bistro I was working at -- the kind of restaurant which prints it's menus semi weekly depending on what fabulous foods were available to the chef's at the time.

One day this young fellow walks in to make a reservation and says he's going to propose to his girlfriend and do we have any suggestions on how to make it really special. Jon the floor manager came up with the most brilliant idea -- he prints up a special dessert menu with the last dessert listed being the proposal!

The couple came in, got their table for two by the window and the entire staff was, "are they having dessert yet? tell me when they get to dessert."

When the moment came I was behind the bar and was able to stare without being obvious. She reads the menu, and when she got to it her facial reactions were perfect, like you would imagine, her thoughts read -- "Huh? Did I read that right?" then her face softens to the realization, she looks up from the menu to her boyfriend who then grabs the ring box from his pocket and gets down on the knee, she starts crying -- she's a pretty crier -- and he is smooth, not a moment of awkwardness between them -- it was like a movie.

She said "yes", many of the staff and guests were all misty -- I have goose bumps presently from the recall.

Isn't that a great story?

What's the best proposal you've ever heard of, seen, been a part of, or fantasized would be great?

awwww!! i love it! that's a great one.

the only proposal i've been a part of was for my friends P & L. L is a total geeky computer guy (in a good way). he took P out to a great dinner at my friend's restaurant. they got seated in a private booth (with curtain), but it was open to the 2nd floor so we could watch from above. he had a white tshirt printed with the proposal on the tshirt. but he had it written in LEET. if you dont know what LEET is, it's a geeky way of typing/talking so character and numbers make up the letters. (read about it here on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet)

Anyway, he had something like this on his shirt:
W!11 y0u m4rry m3?

with a check box for yes/no. after dessert, he unzipped his jacket and handed her the pen. it took her a few minutes to translate, but she finally checked the box for yes.

and then we all started clapping and she looked up and saw us. it was fun.

umm-got nothing, though I'm sure I've been a party to a few.. I just can't remember them.

BUT- About her being a pretty crier, I was just thinking about that last night..Have you ever seen Kathy Griffin cry? So delicate. Some people end up red faced sloppy looking puffy eyed messes. Kinda like a really drunk person.

Awwww! I thought you were gonna say the ring was in a ravioli!

The BEST proposal I ever saw was a week ago tonight, at The American Idol concert when Gina Glocksen's boyfriend came out on stage and asked her to marry him! It's on youtube on my blog if you didn't see it! SOOOO awesome! I was screaming like a tween!

That's such a cool proposal.

I don't know any that are better than that.

My own was as unromantic as they come. 'uh, honey? since we're expecting our second kid together, you think we should get hitched?'

That is an awesome story!

The best proposal I ever witnessed was planned by my friend Danny. He had friends and family gather in a park that was near his girlfriend's apartment. He had a friend of hers go and get her, and walk her to the park, and along the way were people who she loves, handing her roses. Her family came down from Maine, his family flew in from California. When she got to the park, Danny and eight of his guy friends serenaded her, and then he kneeled down and proposed. It was gorgeous, and gave me a much-needed dose of hope!!!

Yay love :)

I'm loving these. Imkay -- how did your hubby propose to you?

monnik -- mine was about like yours, "Should we go to the courthouse Friday?" "Okay."

friends and family griped, so we got married three weeks later in a park.

I need more readers so I can have more stories.

speaking of -- where is tooth fairey?

I had big plans. Me and my wife had known for years we were getting married and we even had a date set but money was tight and I hadn't been able to buy her a ring, she thought we would get amrried with only a simple band and that I's buy her a shiny diamond later on.

But I saved and bought a ring right before we were taking a quick trip with both our families to the mountains.

I planned for us to hike to the top of this mountain were I would give her the ring. But after only a short way she said she was tired and wanted to go back. I urged her on but finally she said no, I'm tired I can't breath this is as far as I go. So I handed her the ring and formally proposed halfway up a mountain instead of on top. Oh well, October will be our tenth anniversary.

I'm back. Been at the cabin on vacation.

I've proposed several times, some to the same woman, some to strangers. Most didn't turn out well (court order my ass!) and others...well I'm still waiting on an answer from Gina, Luci, Shaquindilla, bob and the red head from "that seventies show".

But as soon as I get a "yes" I'll post the heartwarmnig tear-jerker of a story for all to see and be awed by. Unless it results in another arrest.

Not too deep, which is good. Too much nature gives me the willies.
