He's not seeing anymore ghost people, cats, dogs or babies -- whew!

Good morning friends. Just dropping in with an update -- your prayers are working . He is back at his assisted living apartment and is no longer hallucinating. He is still quite ill, but it's such a relief to see him without the wild look in his eyes.

I hope that never happens again. He has some serious health issues that are here to stay, but I hope he regains enough health so he can hang with his new friends at his new home. You know how some places for older people make you never want to get old -- this place I could do (can I move in tomorrow?). I hope I can afford a nice place like this one, the staff is exceptional and the people who live there are so happy and fun to be around. Definitely not one of those waiting to die type places.

Cute side story -- this one lady made my day. I was sitting next to her in a common area and we were conversing about my grandpa, about hair (bangs), hats, exercise and all around general girl chat stuff. Out of the blue she patted me on the back and then lay her head on my shoulder -- it was so fricken sweet and just what I needed, I almost cried. It also made me miss my grandma, because her mannerisms were so similar. Oh! But that wasn't even the make my day part.

The make my day part was when she told me I had a nice shape and was very nicely proportioned. Right there is why I love old people -- because they say shit like that -- "nice proportions" -- who says that? Old folk. And I've been feeling very "big boned" as of late, so of course I told her she was my new best friend for saying such nice things aloud (she also assumed I exercise regularly -- bless her ).

Thank you buddies so much for your prayers they truly make a difference.

Encephalopathy by any chance? I've had three times where I've been hospitilized and hallucinations were part of the problem. One was my meds, one was lack of meds, and one was a buildup of ammonia in the blood. Not very fun at all.

Then there were the self induced times in my teens and early 20's..... back when I thought it funny, not a very scary thing.

they checked for oxygen/carbon monoxide buildup issues -- I'm not sure what happened, but it was an ordeal to find someone that would check for causes instead of chalking it up to old age and explaining it as Alzheimer's, "which sometimes manifests this way". Blow me. Yesterday -- a little forgetful. Today? Tackling people, that do not exist, out of my driver's seat.

Plus I have the staff at his home saying they see this with bladder infections and such and that it is not a rare medical phenomena.

I arranged for him to get to the er and they cleaned his ears and sent him home. ?????

Even when I took him myself to a different hospital and they found he had pneumonia (google: dementia pneumonia elderly), his regular doc was explaining Alzheimer's to me and talking about the new drug you can get to stall it.

Can you imagine if honey took you to the ER for your hallucinations and they cleaned your ears and sent you home?

remind me not to get sick in that town when I'm old.

---were you aware that you were hallucinating? Just curious -- because he did understand after a while that he was hallucinating, but he couldn't differentiate most of them without the help of someone talking him through it. It totally reminded me of talking someone down during a self-induced deal. The fact that he aware was actually harder than if he was straight out delusional. I can't imagine be stuck like that. At least most of his stuff was benign and not scary stuff.

At first I didn't, and a doctor told me I was paranoid shizophrenic, which made me cry. I was trying to get him to test my blood to see if someone had slipped something in my drink.

The last time I fought hard to stay sane and it was frustrating, I'd go to pick up the phone and pick up the water cup instead. I couldn't even figure out how to use it once I had it in my hand. And I walked around the unit all night I couldn't sleep. The nurses were awesome about it. It kept me from breaking into a zillion pieces.

Another time I was in a coma for about a month and had wicked "dreams" and when I started to come out of it, I thought it was all real.. and tried to talk to my family about what we had done..like flown to Japan? And that I had a hidden bag of precious gemstones, and I was attacked by a shark... you get the drift.

At any rate I take a slew of medications to prevent future episodes. Last attack was in May.

tooth fairey -- you really are real! Just about the time I started ignoring a problem with one of my molars, you went away. Monday, I finally got the bad tooth fixed and here you are.

hmmm, never considered her moves might be lesbionic -- crafty. Again, I say she reminds me of my grandma -- not that my grandma was a lesbian, but she did know how to work the "cute old lady" aspect in order to slip under the radar. Like when she used to pick us up from school, she would make the kids make way for her and her car -- "they think I'm just a nice old lady who won't hit them" -- and she'd smile a sweet, ignorant elder coming through, smile and the kids would turn to see what idiot was driving where they were trying to walk -- they'd see her smile and be like, "oh, sorry old lady -- let me move out of the way for you", Granted, many kids probably smacked talked about stupid old people once she passed, but she always got respect to her face.

Way to work the white hair and wrinkles.

That's fantastic...both that he's doing better and that that lovely woman told you you had nice proportions. Those kind of compliments are hard to come by these days...enjoy :)

Never ignore a bad tooth. Wanna know why? Because the little bastards wait until you're just about to start that vacation to really give you trouble. Leaving for a cruise tomorrow? Ohh, well I think it's time for that crown to loosen. Or maybe that tiny crack that you never noticed will run down to the root and send javalin sized shock waves of pain rippling across your skull.

Trust me,those pearly whites are just ticking, thinking time bombs. You should pray for the day you have a mouth full of dentures.

BTW, "big-boned" is very in. Thank you America Ferara!

Ooh, I loved this post. The little old lady is so cool! The hospital anecdote [cleaned his ears and sent him home?!?] reminds me why I try never to go near those places.

Glad your grandad is better.
