Death in the family

My PC!!!

My limping along computer finally cacked. Dead. Won't even turn on and try.

Like my old cat -- I was the only one who loved it. Everyone else thinks it's about time, but me? I'm marching it down to the PC doctor just to see how much to revive it.

Why bother? Because next purchase will be a Mac, and the way this thing went down, I think it may just be a parts issue and not a virus or past it's prime thing. If it's a cheap part...

Just a reminder -- back up your pictures. I had most of mine, but there are some (several hundred) recent that may go down in flames (several hundred recent -- gotta love digital photagraphy).

***Important info to my e-mail pals -- NO E-MAIL SET UP on this here, husband's, computer. If you would like to reach me, use my hotmail account that is set up to the link in my blogger profile.

***whoops -- just saw the e-mail button isn't set up -- must have lost that when I did my new background color. it's :
kimberly-louise at hotmail dot com

*** this reads like I don't want a Mac. Wrong. Can't afford the Mac I want at this time (still working on the kitchen) and won't spend money on another pc, unless I can revive the dead one for a small fee.

No, leighan, you read that correctly. My old cat was purrrfect, even though he was deaf and had a deaf meow that everyone thought was weird. And he was a tad anti-social, and before you say "aren't they all?" -- no some cats are quite pesty about getting attention.

Aaaanyway, Nick was the perfect amount of snuggle a little, do my own thing a little and maybe he hissed at a person or two just because they were there -- is that so wrong?

No.

Yet somehow, several people independently came up with the nickname "Nick the dick" for him.

EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE! You must must must spend an extra $100 or so. It's like 500GB so plenty of room for pictures, music and games.

I'm going to build my own pc next which will probably be soon. This one has become overloaded with music and pictures too... she's protesting any quickness and freezes on me.. she's about 3 and a half now.. the laptop I have is devoid of anything. Travel only or surfing only while laying on the couch.

poor kim. having a computer die sucks. mine died, closely followed by my monitor AND my ipod. i lost ALL of my music bc i didnt have another backup (i thought the ipod WAS the backup for my music). lesson learned. got the external drive and it runs auto backups nightly. good luck getting back online. maybe just a screw fell out or something :)

INTERVENTION STAT! The pc gods are shaking their heads at you.

Okay option 32 I use is putting the card in the reader and burning a cd from that. then i just label the month cause i end up burning crappy pictures.

But the ones I glean off the web yep they go right onto my pc..and it's a bunch.

I understand perfectly. Banged away on an ancient one for years until it died last year. Just needed a power unit, but apparently they don't make that old kind any more.

Got a new laptop last month, a gift would you believe, and it's got everything yet I'm very suspicious of it. And it's got Vista, that miscarriage of technology. I swear my next will be a Mac.
