All about odds
On my very first venture off of my own blog and out into blogland I came across a blog, fell in love with the writing, dropped a note to say so and made my very first blogger buddy. That was over three years ago and we've been the Internet version of pen pals ever since. Despite the fact that she lives in India, I've always had the sense that one day we would be in the same coffee house chatting it up in person.
I'm not one to think I'm some kind of psychic, really, quite the opposite -- I tend to over think things to the point of not being able to pull common sense from the stream of worry and alternate possibilities that runs below the surface, some days like a constant ticker tape. However, for the Chicken Soup aspect of this story, I think it's important to note that I had the sense we would meet.
Strange how the world turns, as fate would have it, she landed a temporary job in my country -- in my state -- practically in my town! She is in my old town and thirty minutes from where I live.
Really!
Saturday we met it person and I have to say, she translates from written to human form just as I suspected she would. If I could only use one word to describe her it would have to be, delightful. My kids want to see her again, tomorrow!
Preethi is a girl who likes to travel and I've had many a vicarious adventure through the pictures and words of her blog. We didn't make it to a coffee house, but we did meet up at the Milwaukee Art Museum. When I first saw her standing on the deck of the landmark building it was as close as real life gets to a moment from a Gabriel García Márquez story -- it was like one of her blog adventure photos suddenly come to life and I was temporarily part of a living photo, then we meet and the photo fades into real life chatting and museum browsing.
I can't wait until our next adventure, or more likely -- tame barbecue at my house.
Anyone else want to come?

It sure was a fun time. The best thing was meeting your girls, really. I have seen them grow up, acquire pets, make snow angels, lose teeth, get stitches, get newly painted rooms... in general -- living. All these through the countless pics you have shared with me. And when I did finally meet, I cant tell you how awesome it felt.
And with you, there was that unexplicable familiarity of having met and spoken very many times. :)
We are surely going to a coffee house. And sipping coffee. We need to realise that wish too.
:)
Love.

beautiful photos, and aren't blog friends the best? I love meeting people and seeing if they are the same in person as they are in blogland.
Because I live in faraway Australia, I have only met two bloggers in person - and they both turned out to be exactly as they are in cyberspace.
Some great shots here, Kim.
Ah, yes, lovely. Love those photos. Very clever! I also met up with a blogger too, while I am here visiting my family in NYC. What fun to meet them in real life!
Oh, fabulous! What a wonderful, and inspiring story! Congrats on POTD! This is a well-told story!!! Love it!
Beautiful post and many congratulations on POTD.
Super photos. Eddie
Oh, my gosh, what an awesome story!!! And those pictures are gorgeous!
Beautiful story! The photos are amazing!
Later this month I will meet one of my long time blogging friends. I hope I like it as much as you seem to have.
I picked your blog for today's link because it was of interest to me. I assumed it might be of interest to my readers.
Your the first one to ask why you were picked.
Wow - how bloody lovely! I've never met any blog friends, not even the ones who live right here on my tiny island. The others are scattered around the planet and I would love to meet them on the one hand, but on the other I dread that if we do meet we'll realize we're really strangers after all and feel terribly awkward.
After reading this I'm thinking that maybe if I ever meet up with a cyberfriend or two it'll be all right. And if it's anything like yours, it just might be fantastic.
